1960 700 DELUXE CLUB COUPE

Restored 1960 Corvair 700 Deluxe Club Coupe

Built in Oakland, California.

Purchased new in southern California and I purchased it from original owner

in early 2025.

Car has been stored inside since 1981.

Original mileage is 59,421

Original Roman Red paint.

Restored correct gray interior with

correct reproduction door panels, new correct woven fabric headliner

and original package area in good condition.

The rubber mat has been replaced with a high quality

Auto Custom Carpets gray tuxedo carpet (looks very similar to original).

All glass was removed (except rear glass) and regulators, guides, rollers and relays

have been serviced.

Door weatherstripping, window channel weatherstripping, vent window weatherstrips,

engine and trunk weatherstripping are new. 

A new windshield weatherstrip was installed.

New gray pinch weld trim installed.

NOS dome light and lens installed.

I have new coat hooks

and NOS gray sunvisors but I have not installed them yet.

Original gas tank was removed and cleaned.

Gas tank reinstalled with new hoses, NOS GM sending unit and new seal.

Front & rear brakes have been completely rebuilt

including new shoes, new hardware, new wheel cylinders, new hoses,

new inner & outer wheel bearings and seals and machined original brake drums.

The original master cylinder had a very nice bore and has been rebuilt and detailed.

A new pitman arm bushing was installed, front coil springs were cut to level

the stance and heavy duty KYB shocks installed front and rear.

New BF Goodrich Radial T/A 205/60-13" tires installed including matching spare

on re-painted stock wheels.

All four 1960-only hubcaps are NOS as well as NOS optional

1960-61 Chevrolet bowtie wheel trim rings.

Engine has good compression (120-130).

Most sheet metal was removed and the entire drivetrain and compartment were pressure washed.

The engine and transaxle have been resealed

including Viton pushrod tube o rings, engine oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets,

axle seals, shift cable Viton o ring, Delcotron adapter gasket, 

and a rebuilt crankcase cover with NOS fan bearing and new gaskets installed.

NOS oil pressure and heat switches have been installed.

Both carburetors are rebuilt with new throttle shafts. The generator has also 

been rebuilt using an NOS armature and is 100% correct for 1960.

The choke assembly is fully rebuilt with an NOS heat coil installed.

Has washable air filter installed.

Idler pulley is rebuilt with an new bearing.

Distributor is fully rebuilt with NOS Delco points plate, points, condensor

and new bushing installed. Has new cap and rotor.

Has new AC Delco spark plugs and correct 1960 spark plug wires.

All wiring is original and in good condition.

No solderless connectors or sloppy

modern wiring repairs or patchwork anywhere.

All electrical systems are in good working order. 

The engine oil and filter were changed in November 2025.

The differential oil was drained and re filled in November 2025.

The Powerglide fluid was drained and replaced in November 2025.

The vehicle has approximately 650 mile on it since November 2025.

New universal joints have been installed and both rear axle bearings

were disassembled, cleaned and regreased.

Engine exhaust pipe, muffler, tailpipe, clamps, packings and manifold

studs and nuts are all new.

Drivetrain has all correct sheet metal, fittings, fasteners, shields and guards in place as 

originally installed for 1960 models. 

Firewall insulation is new.

Has a new series 51 battery with correct Delco Spring Ring battery cables

and the correct 1960 battery hold down assembly.

Nearly all external trim including emblems, grillebar, headlight bezels,

rear air grille, tail lights, antenna and beltline trim are NOS parts.

Some beltline trim is the original pieces that were restored.

Currently registered with period correct 1960 gold California license plates and

a rebuilt 1960 glass license plate light assembly.

Has original Guide T-3 headlight bulbs and new front park light lenses and gaskets,

new tail light lenses and gaskets and NOS reverse light delete plates installed.

Has re chromed front and rear bumpers.

Has original optional rubber full trunk mat and gasoline heater.

The gas heater has had the burner assembly rebuilt and is in good working order.

The original radio has been rebuilt and works great with the original speaker installed.

It is important to note 1960 700's did not come with an outside

rearview mirror.

This car never had one and there was no way I was drilling holes

in the door to put one on now!

The only rust was found where an old battery had been left on the rear floor

at the passenger side. The acid leaked and caused a rectangular rusty area (shape of the battery)

on the floor where your feet would go. I cut a replacement section from

another Corvair and tack welded and sealed it.

The trunk bottom also has some small rust holes along

the forward seam but it's treated with POR-15.

There is a oil leak at the bellhousing. The forward crank seal 

is the reason but since it's not a horrible problem I've

elected to ignore it.

Since the paint is mostly original there are minor scrapes

and dings (mostly from the garage where it was stored).

There is no previous collision or major damage repairs. 

The vehicle runs and drives really good and I enjoy taking it

on Sunday drives all the time.
